Donovan Reiter (Actor) on Coma Unplugged... (2:14)

"I think a lot of men have to walk that fine line in their lives. What's 'too macho', what is too much of a stereotype to live, but at the same time you need a little bit of it otherwise you feel like you are not living up to your male potential, and so on. ...And I don't know if we give the answers in the show, but we certainly give you something to think about."

Interviewee: Donovan Reiter

LP: Hello.

DR: Hello.

LP: Can you present yourself and tell us what you are doing on Coma Unplugged?

DR: Hi. I'm Donovan Reiter and I'm playing Roger in Coma Unplugged.

LP: So what attracted you to Roger? Who's Roger?

DR: I think our hero [Daniel] has a bit of Rodger in him but I think somehow he feels he needs a little more. Or maybe he had a little too much and he needs a little less. I think a lot of men have to walk that fine line in their lives. What's 'too macho', what is too much of a stereotype to live, but at the same time you need a little bit of it otherwise you feel like you are not living up to your male potential, and so on. So I think I identify with [Daniel] because I have the same problems. I wonder: 'Am I being too macho? Am I being too much of a stereotypical male? Should I be a little moresensitive in my life? Should I be this way with my wife? Should I be this way with my friends? Where do the two meet?' And I don't know if we give the answers in the show, but we certainly give you something to think about.

LP: And this is a comedy. Thisis done in a light of something...

DR: ...Exactly. But that's life, isn't it?

LP: Yes.

DR: You know, I mean in your darkest hours you have to laugh because you say 'How did I get here? What kind of cruel comedy is this?' And so I think the play takes its comedy from life. It takes the truth and makes it funny. It turns it around.

LP: So thiswill be your first time with Talisman...

DR: It is. Although I've heard fantastic things about Talisman. I'm very excited. I remember reading in the Gazette about how there was a renaissance in English Theatre in Montreal, and one of the companies leading the way was Talisman. So I was happy to hear that I was being asked to audition, and then I was even happier to get the role.

LP: Yes. Well, welcome aboard!

DR: Thank you very much!
