Our History

Talisman Theatre was founded in 2005 by Emma Tibaldo, an eminent theatre director (now Artistic, and Executive director of Playwrights' Workshop Montreal), and Lyne Paquette, Talisman's Artistic Director and a renowned Set Designer.

Talisman has a vibrant, living mission: to produce English-language premières of contemporary Québécois plays for Montreal's public and students. We are a team of bi-lingual artists drawn from Montreal's vibrant theatre community and collaborating since 2005.

Our productions are selected to help build bridges between traditional Quebecois culture and Montreal's other cultural communities and, to this end, our production development process uses the best of both French and English traditions.

Pierre-Michel Tremblay's Coma Unplugged (October 20-29, 2011), a morbidly amusing portrayal of Quebecois tragi-comedy, fits perfectly into the niche we have established for ourselves with our previous productions:
  • That Woman (2006, 2007),
  • Down Dangerous Passes Road (2008),
  • Rock, Paper, Jackknife... (2009),
  • and The Flood Thereafter (2010),
