Zach Fraser (Director) on Coma Unplugged... (2:55)"I think it is really important, and not pursued enough, to build the bridge between the French and the English communities here, and to have a play that is very well known in the French community and not at all known in the English community, that excites me a lot. ...Pierre-Michel's style ...automatically understands that we break the boundaries of reality to a certain degree, and that's fun for a Director and for a production to be able to have that freedom." |

Interviewee: Zach Fraser
LP: Hi.
ZF: Hi Lyne.
LP: Can you present yourself and tell us what you will be doing with this play: Coma Unplugged.
ZF: Yes. My name is Zach Frazer and I will be the Director for Coman Unplugged for Talisman Theatre.
LP: What attracted you to this play?
ZF: There's a few important elements that attracted me to this play and this project as a whole. First off, I was excited to be called on by Talisman Theatre because I think it is really important, and not pursued enough, to build the bridge between the French and the English communities here, and to have a play that is very well known in the French community and not at all known in the English community, that excites me a lot. And I love feeding that bridge as much as possible. For Pierre-Michel's style of writing, I am really excited by the theatricality that is inherent in his writing. It automatically understands that we break the boundaries of reality to a certain degree, and that's fun for a Director and for a production to be able to have that freedom. And specifically with Coma Unplugged, I find it's a beautiful play that is both comic and potentially tragic. Our central character Daniel Martin, he's in a moment of crisis in his life where he has everything to lose or everything to gain. But the way that Pierre-Michel plays with that is through humour, which is beautiful, and yet it is extremely touching as well. So it's an honest and a playful play.
LP: What do you hope that the audience will come out of this with?
ZF: I hope that through Daniel's journey that the audience, as well as follow a parallel joourney through his moment of reflection, they can have their own moment of reflection. He's at a turning point where he's asking himself what's important to him in life and what makes him who he is and what will make his life complete. And I think we all can ask that question more often. In our society we rush through life and we don't take enough time to reflect on the simple values that we are pursuing. So I hope that they can have that and also be dazzled by the theatricality.
LP: Good.
ZF: Thanks,
LP: Thank you.
