Our educational outreach initiative is a structured, three-year program for college and university students. It aims to introduce them to contemporary Quebec drama through our translated works, in-school workshops with emerging professional artists, and active participation in the translation and production process.

The program is comprised of three steps:

Step 1: Presentations, tailored to each class or group, given by the artistic director, a member of the board of directors, an actor, a translator, a designer, etc. The content will cover the mission of Talisman, as well as a number of topics adapted to the students' interests, such as the translation process or the inner workings of managing a small theatre company.

Step 2: Staged readings & translation workshops of plays, led by professional actors and translators in schools. Students are invited into the translation process through dialogue and in-depth analysis, allowing them to develop their understanding of the works, their critical thinking, and their sense of linguistic and cultural nuances.

Step 3: Workshops, residencies, and productions. We will offer students the opportunity to work directly with our professional artists through the production of a complete work, from the initial stages (choice of work, translation, etc.) to staging, production and presentation.

The workshops consist of a practical activity lasting three hours or more, during which students work with performers, directors, movement coaches, etc. The topics covered can vary, ranging from translation to movement exercises, always with the aim of sparking creativity in young people.

Please reach out to lyne@talisman-theatre.com with inquiries. We would love to share our work and process with your students!
